The stronger ones get to fight the mini Cells slightly longer than the rest of them, and by the end of the arc Vegeta just gives up fighting because a 10 year old is stronger than him. It's all about Goku and Gohan, every other character is basically a spectator because they messed up in the events leading up to it. So Goku doesn't have to win the fight, he just has to be important. Vegeta rocketed himself to be a secondary main character, as far as just Z and Super goes, his character is better written to the point where some people believe it's his story (or Gohan's, whoever is getting wanked that day). I think a lot of people are stuck focusing on Goku being simply important, because he's the main character. GT is just as bad where I don't think he suffers a loss to someone he doesn't come back and defeat.

I think Goku gets the win in almost every single Z movie except 2 Bojack, Broly 2 and Bio-broly? And even then, he's still saving Gohan in 2 of those from beyond the grave. I think the overall thought that Goku always wins and saves the day comes from the DBZ Movies and GT where this very much does happen. These didn't seem to have the same levity as the ones I included. I've kept some sparring matches but mostly excluded any that were when Goku was doing a training montage with Gohan, Piccolo, Vegeta, Whis, Popo etc. Tournament of power was a bitch, I've arbitrarily excluded any fight that didn't end in a knockout or wasn't with Jiren as there were just way too many little scuffles to count. Goku's win rate against major antagonist is abysmal. Tournament placings 2nd, 2nd, 1st, DNF, DNF, DNF, 2nd, T2ndįinal thoughts, Goku's win rate is massively inflated by defeating trash in the Red Ribbon Saga and Budokai's, literally normal humans. Here's his complete win/loss (i'm doing this from memory, please call out anything I've missed/forgotten) - I'll also call out what I'd consider a victory vs a major opponent along with Tournament placings and Vegeta saves/savings. His tournament W/L is garbage and is actually saved by Vegeta just as much as he saves Vegeta in return. Goku's win loss is god awful against major villains/antagonist and isn't that impressive overall.
